2017 MPRC Scholarship Application

Each year the MPRC awards a minimum of one, $1,000 scholarship, and a maximum of three, $1,000 scholarships, to students attending an accredited Maine college or university. The first $1,000 scholarship is the Arthur J. Marcoux Scholarship for Outstanding Community Service. This scholarship was announced by the board at its Annual Conference last month and will be presented in memoriam of the late Arthur J. Marcoux, a longtime member of the MPRC community. The award recognizes a student’s outstanding contributions to community service. If awarded, the other two $1000 Maine Public Relations Council Scholarships are awarded for outstanding academic achievement. A single application is sufficient for all three awards.  

Eligible students must hold a minimum 3.0 GPA at the time of application, and must be of freshman, sophomore, or junior standing. Applicants must also major in an accredited communications program including public relations, broadcasting, journalism, marketing, advertising, or related communications areas. Submissions must include two faculty references and two letters of recommendation, as well as a 500-word student essay highlighting professional aspirations and scholarship need.

Scholarship applications will be judged on criteria pertaining to career goals, financial need, correlated work and volunteer experience, as well overall professionalism. Applications for the MPRC scholarship are due December, 1st, 2017, on December 22, 2017. Monetary awards are made directly to the institution on behalf of the student and is to be applied to that student's tuition costs the following year. All students not receiving a scholarship are encouraged to reapply next year.
